I'm pretty much done with the adventure pack/mini-expansion discussion for now -- I appreciate the feedback and like I said, it was just some brainstorming -- we aren't planning anything like this but I wanted to hear from all of you and I appreciate the feedback.

As for MMOGs making money, very popular ones can make a LOT of money. Certainly, WoW is making an incredible amount of money.

But they can also lose a lot of money too.

They generally cost a lot more money to make and take a lot longer to make, so the risk is higher. They also have ongoing costs like hosting, bandwidth, CS, Live teams, etc., which is why you have subscription costs usually.

I will say that a very popular MMOG can likely make as much more even more than a very popular single player game -- but again, the money and time put into it first would have been greater and therefore the risk for the company footing the monty.

That said, there are easier ways to make money in the computer and video game business. You really have to love MMOGs to make them IMHO. While they can make a lot of money, like I said they can lose a lot of money too. And you need the right kind of team and a lot of patience because they take so long.

A very sucessful single player game can make a lot of money and take less time and money to make.

We choose to make MMOGs to make money of course, but it's also because it's what we know how to do and what we love doing. Were we just about making money in the computer/video games industry, I assure you we'd be doing something else

So you have your WoWs and EQs which made and/or are making huge bucks. Then you have your Sims Online which cost a lot and lost huge dollars. Then you have your smaller more niche MMOGs which didn't/don't cost as much, but neither do they make as much, appealing to less people.

Here's hoping that Vanguard will be another EQ level (450k plus subscribers) hit game or, given how many more MMOG players there are now, grow into something much larger

thanks all,
