And death penalties.
It seems that they are making different servers which has differernt death penalties. some with no death penalty, and others with some death penalty, and others with huge death penalty.
4gamers asked " we think a game with out death penalty isnt fun, how do you think about that?" Brad sayed "that right, but some gamers these days dont like it and we want them to play as well."
Prediction: Most gamers will play Vanguard on the easiest setting or server if you give them the choice (they will justifiy it in their minds by saying it is because they are learning the game). People will will get bored on the easy servers. People will not want to start over on the harder servers and harder servers will be under played. The game will then wither away losing its vision and becoming EQ2 or WOW.
Dont do it Sigil ! Take a risk and make the game challenging for all players equally. My bet is that the risk will pay off into big $$$ rewards for Sigil. Don't break rule #1 by losing your vision and forgetting about your niche market, any business person would agree with that. Try to be everything to everybody and VG will fail.
We're making death penalties depend on the situation -- where you are, what you are fighting, etc. This is to uphold our comittment to have content for casual, group and raid players. We are not dumbing down the game on the whole, nor abandoning the vision. Once we have the death penalty tuned and where we want it in beta (probably in beta 4) we'll be happy to share the details. But I wouldn't worry about it, seriously.
Oh, and it will likely NOT have anything to do with different servers -- our intent it to make a DP system applicable to Vanguard the game as a whole.
